Passo Giau (2.236) is one of the steepest and most difficult mountain passes in Europe. To experience how tough, start the ascent from Selva di Cadore.

The average gradient of the climb is 9.2%, and it doesn’t drop anywhere below the 7%. You got 29 turns ahead before reaching the summit of this 10km long climb. Each turn is numbered, so when you look up from your handle bars, you know where you are. This can be an encouragement or disappointment, but reaching the summit will always feel like victory.

After you have climbed the Mortirolo (1.852m) via the village Mazzo everything seems to be flat. This is an extremely heavy climb, it’s like riding in slowmotion all the way.
